Art class was over.
미술 수업이 끝났습니다.
Vashti did not leave the classroom.
바쉬티는 교실을 떠나지 않았습니다.
Her paper was empty.
그녀의 종이는 비어 있었습니다.
Vashti’s teacher looked at the empty paper.
바쉬티의 선생님은 빈 종이를 보았습니다.
“Ah! It’s a polar bear in a snowstorm,” she said.
"아! 눈보라 속의 북극곰이구나," 선생님이 말했습니다.
“Very funny!” said Vashti. “I just can’t draw.”
"웃기시네요!" 바쉬티가 말했습니다. "전 그냥 그림을 못 그려요."
Her teacher smiled and shook her head.
선생님은 미소 지으며 고개를 저었습니다.
“Just make a mark. It will take you somewhere.”
"그냥 표시 하나만 해 봐. 그게 너를 어디론가 데려다 줄 거야."
Vashti picked up a pen and poked the paper.
바쉬티는 펜을 집어 들고 종이에 콕 찍었습니다.
“There!”
"됐어요!"
Her teacher picked up the paper and looked at it carefully.
선생님은 그 종이를 집어 들고 유심히 들여다보았습니다.
She returned the paper to Vashti and said, “Now sign it.”
그녀는 종이를 바쉬티에게 돌려주며 말했습니다. “이제 사인해 봐.”
Vashti thought for a moment.
바쉬티는 잠시 생각했습니다.
“Well, maybe I can’t draw, but I can sign my name.”
"음, 나는 그림은 못 그리지만, 이름은 쓸 수 있잖아요."
Next week, Vashti walked into art class.
다음 주, 바쉬티는 미술 수업에 들어왔습니다.
She was surprised.
그녀는 깜짝 놀랐습니다.
There was a picture above the teacher’s desk.
선생님 책상 위에는 그림이 하나 걸려 있었습니다.
It was her dot in a gold frame!
그것은 금빛 액자에 담긴 그녀의 점이었습니다!
“Hmm! I can make a better dot than that!”
"흠! 저것보다 더 나은 점을 만들 수 있겠는걸!"
She opened her set of watercolors and started to work.
그녀는 수채화 도구를 꺼내 작업을 시작했습니다.
Vashti painted and painted more to create dots.
바쉬티는 점을 만들기 위해 계속해서 그림을 그렸습니다.
A red dot. A yellow dot. A blue dot.

She mixed the blue with the yellow.

She could make a green dot!

She was very happy with herself.
그녀는 자신이 매우 자랑스러웠습니다.
“I made lots of little dots. I guess I can make big ones, too.”
"작은 점들을 많이 만들었으니, 이제 큰 것도 만들 수 있을 거야."
Vashti used a bigger brush and bigger paper to make bigger dots.
바쉬티는 더 큰 붓과 더 큰 종이를 써서 더 큰 점을 만들었습니다.
Vashti even made a dot without painting one.
바쉬티는 점을 칠하지 않고도 하나 만들었어요.
She painted the whole paper except the round center.
그녀는 가운데 동그란 부분을 제외하고 종이 전체를 칠했습니다.
There was a white dot!
하얀 점이 생긴 것이죠!
A few weeks later, the school art show took place.
몇 주 후, 학교에서 미술 전시회가 열렸습니다.
Vashti’s many dots were a big success!
바쉬티의 수많은 점들은 큰 성공을 거두었습니다!
Vashti saw a little boy. He was standing beside her.
바쉬티는 한 남자아이를 봤습니다. 그는 그녀 옆에 서 있었습니다.
“You’re a great artist. I want to paint like you,” he said.
“넌 정말 훌륭한 예술가야. 나도 너처럼 그림 그리고 싶어.” 그 아이가 말했습니다.
“I’m sure you can. Trust yourself,” said Vashti.
“당연히 할 수 있어. 자신을 믿어.” 바쉬티가 말했습니다.
“No, I can’t even draw a straight line.”
“아니야, 나는 직선도 제대로 못 그려.”
Vashti smiled. She handed the boy a piece of paper.
바쉬티는 미소를 지으며 아이에게 종이 한 장을 건넸습니다.
“Show me.”
“보여줘.”
The boy’s pencil shook while he drew a line.
그 아이의 연필은 선을 그릴 때 떨렸습니다.
The line was not straight.
그 선은 곧지 않았습니다.
Vashti looked at it carefully and said,
바쉬티는 그것을 유심히 바라보며 말했습니다.
“Please ... sign it.”
“제발... 사인해 줘.”
