My Summer Days in Alaska
알래스카에서의 나의 여름날들
9:00 p.m.
오후 9시
Last summer, I visited my uncle in Alaska.
지난 여름, 나는 알래스카에 있는 삼촌을 방문했다.

사진 속 시간이 몇 시인지 맞혀볼 수 있겠니?
It was actually 9 p.m.
사실은 오후 9시였다.
My uncle said, “The sun doesn’t set from May to July.
삼촌은 “5월부터 7월까지는 해가 지지 않아.”라고 말했다.
So Alaska is ‘The Land of the Midnight Sun.’”
그래서 알래스카는 ‘한밤중의 태양의 땅’이라고 불려.
One day, my uncle took me and my cousin, Jimmy, to the Alaska State Fair.
어느 날, 삼촌은 나와 사촌 지미를 알래스카 주 박람회에 데려갔다.
Jimmy signed up for the wood cutting game.
지미는 나무 자르기 게임에 참가 신청을 했다.
People started cutting the wood fast.
사람들은 빠르게 나무를 자르기 시작했다.
I cheered for him, but he didn’t get the prize.
나는 그를 응원했지만, 그는 상을 받지 못했다.
“It was hard. The wood was wet,” Jimmy said.
“힘들었어. 나무가 젖어 있었거든,” 지미가 말했다.
We got hungry, so we went to the food court.
우리는 배가 고파져서 푸드코트에 갔다.
We had salmon sandwiches.
우리는 연어 샌드위치를 먹었다.
They were very new to me.
그건 나에게 매우 생소했다.
At home, I usually put ham and cheese in sandwiches, not salmon.
집에서는 보통 샌드위치에 햄과 치즈를 넣지, 연어는 넣지 않는다.
They were tasty because the salmon was so fresh.
연어가 매우 신선해서 정말 맛있었다.
We, then, went to the Giant Vegetable Contest.
그 다음에 우리는 거대 채소 대회에 갔다.
All the vegetables were huge!
모든 채소들이 정말 컸다!
My uncle entered the contest with his pumpkin.
삼촌은 자신의 호박으로 대회에 참가했다.
It was bigger than a pig!
그건 돼지보다도 더 컸다!
“The crops get about 20 hours of sunlight a day during summer.
“여름에는 작물들이 하루에 약 20시간 동안 햇빛을 받아.
So they grow bigger and sweeter,” my uncle said.
그래서 더 크고 달게 자라는 거야.” 삼촌이 말했다.
When we left the fair at 10 p.m., it was not so dark.
우리가 밤 10시에 박람회를 떠날 때도, 그렇게 어둡지 않았다.
It was a fun day.
즐거운 하루였다.
